I’ve said it many times, and I’ll say it again: I love LOVE!

I was contacted to do a couples session for a young, in love couple who wanted to celebrate their dating relationship, as they’ve never had portraits done together before. My excitement grew even further when I got a call a few days before the session from the boyfriend who confided in me that he planned on proposing DURING the portrait session. I was grinning ear to ear, let me tell you. We’ve gone from a couples session to an engagement session, and I was thrilled to witness “The Moment”.

I headed out to their family farm in Havre de Grace in gorgeous Harford County to document their love on a perfect evening. The ground was dry, the sun was out. Perfection.

They wanted to incorporate their dogs in the portraits, and I was more than happy to oblige. Such sweet puppies!

I was getting REALLY nervous at this point. I can’t even image how he must have felt. So we headed off to find a new spot, for the big moment. (apparently she thought his blood sugar was low!)

Here we go– we had pre-planned a specific code phrase so we would both know it was time. I let it fly, perched up on my ladder, shaking and excited to watch the proposal unveil. Such a gentleman, down on one knee with a ring suddenly appearing out of nowhere.

Beaming smiles! She said yes!

We walked around to more spots on the farm. Don’t you just love the rolling fields of Harford County? I really enjoy living up here.

I love to photograph couples. Young love is so exciting– you have your whole future ahead of you and your possibilities are endless. Getting engaged/married is one of the first major milestones of adult life, second only (in my opinion) to the birth of your children.

I was glad to work with this couple before this major heatwave settled in over our heads. The weather was nice (for Baltimore standards, at least), the light was pretty, and love was in the air. We ventured over to a park in Towson to celebrate their engagement!

If you haven’t noticed by now, I don’t really go for smile-at-the-camera. Especially with couples. My goal by the end of the session is to have you feel more in love with your significant other than when we started.

I love these quiet moments. Little soft kisses. Sweet whispers.

You don’t have to worry about feeling awkward, not knowing what to do, etc. While I prefer to be very hands-off so I can capture you and your family being genuinely YOU in your actions and expressions, I will loosely guide you. Sit this way, look at her, close your eyes…. but then there is a time to step back and let the magic happen.

Can you tell I love kissing shots?

I think the only thing I love more than kissing is capturing a moment of private laughter. I wonder what he said?

I really enjoyed working with these two. They were very laid back, willing to do just about anything and trusting that I knew what I was doing when I asked them to walk way out in waist high grass, or to stand on the edge of a drop off because I liked the curve of the tree in the background.

Because every session should end with some snuggling while laying in the grass.
